Wedding Cake Trends 2017

Zainab R.

Ruffles

Wedding dresses are not the only place to have ruffles, they look just as pretty on cakes. Ruffled rosettes, sharp ruffles with gold edges, ruffled petals forming a statement flower, ombre ruffles or just all white ruffles going in different directions. There are so many options to choose from.

Naked Cakes

No i did not make this term up, these cakes with little or no icing on the outside of the cake show off the gorgeous cake layers and delicious fillings inside. The look can be completed with some vibrant blooms or simple garland around the base for a totally elegant look or go with all red layers.

Lace Cakes

If you are like me, then you will be totally enamoured by the trend of romantic wedding lace cakes. From intricately piped royal-icing designs and hand-painted lace to real lace stencils, there are a myriad of ways to translate lace onto your wedding dessert.

Geometric Cakes

If you are planning a modern and contemporary wedding, then this trend is for you. There are endless possibilities in creating your unique cake design from crisp shapes to triangle or chevron motifs. These will definitely get you excited.

Florals

Pretty blooms are never going to go out of fashion, whether you prefer sugar or fresh ones. You can go with something that grows from roots to flowers all over the cake, or just a bunch of vibrant colour florals or even a garland at the front to create a showstopper. They are just getting better and better.

Ombre

No one can get enough of Ombre! The soft fading effect looks so lovely on wedding cakes. It can be in the form of buttercream or a pattern or ruffles, the colour of which fades as you go up the tier or the opposite looks equally stunning.

Buttercream Textures

This classic style of wedding cakes is never going to get old as new buttercream texture trends keep amazing me every time. Go with the buttercream pleats or ruffles or ombre rustic texture for an outdoor wedding.

Hand Painted Cakes

As if wedding cakes couldn't get any sweeter you can customise your cake with hand painted initial illustrations, a scripted quote or pretty florals or petals painted with bright colours of buttercream for a stunning look.

Metallic

These metallic wedding cakes leaves every bride wanting for gold and silver details. Shimmering cakes with a touch of gold or a hint of silver will definitely add the glamour you were craving for your big day.

Marble

A very modern wedding cake trend which incorporates marble design made of fondant giving a super stylish look which is not too girly. Go bold this season with these striking beauties.

Colourful Drip Cakes

A fun approach to traditional style wedding cakes, these colourful cakes make a big statement that is all about the fun! Colour drip cakes are cakes which have been covered in fondant, dirty iced, soft iced or left naked and then finished with a layer of dripping chocolate, caramel or a sweet, coloured ganache trickling down the sides. Yum! Seriously these will have your guests' mouths watering...

Geode

Step aside, traditional white wedding cakes, geode cakes are taking over now! Covered in stunning edible crystals, these rocky confections have become the ultimate bridal must-haves this season, making brides say goodbye to the regular cakes and hello to colourful crystals.
